On the 5th of October Livingstone academy held an open night for new secondary students and their parents to see the amazing building that took 2 years to be open. Many-many great things happened during the open night.

During open night, we took the opportunity to ask our teachers what their favorite part about teaching at LAB was. Mr Tharme, who is our new head teacher, has said “ I love how happy and excellent communicators the students are.” He has demonstrated to be caring and dedicated to his students. Another teacher we talked to was Mr Butler, our music teacher. He told us how grateful he is to teach music in this school, “ I get to grow the music culture in the school.”  He is dedicated to teaching us everything about music. Making the lessons 100 times more fun for us students.

We also asked our Assistant Principals favorite things about teaching and being at LAB, and here's what they said: “It's great to be part of this journey, start to end.” and “The students here in LAB are very inspiring.” They really allowed us to see how brilliant the students are, and how great the teaching conditions are here at LAB.

During the open night, many teachers and students also had different events set up that related to their subject. These events ranged from complex coding to even a murder mystery in a classroom. An event we witnessed was in the computing room where a fellow student of LAB made micro-bits display a certain text through the press of buttons that thus activated a code that displayed the message. The computing room was filled with absolutely amazing inventions set up as we also saw a fruit piano. The fruit piano played music when you touched a fruit while holding a certain cable that made a sound through another set of complex code. This invention left us and many-many parents mind blown, amazed and speechless.  Not everything was code related as our fellow students also played some fantastic music tracks with their respective instruments that sound magnificent, stunning, and astonishing.

In summary, the building that took two years to build has reached everybody’s expectations. The building was filled with creativity and students who were caring and helpful to everyone. We also interviewed the teachers to see their opinion of the building and school in general; all of them gave us a positive outcome.
